efios     Efios home Weblog     The efios blog: "It's all about people and networks"       17 May 2005 Workshop Report on the Theory and Practice of Physical and Network Communities The question that Katja Kuldszun raised in the Knowledgeboard Forum on communities of practice brought back an article from 1997 from ATT (Whittaker) / O'Day (PARC) that just two months before I had been discussing about in Australia. I used to have it bookmarked but the old link was broken (tends to happen) so I tracked it down again and found it - this time I made a PDF print for keepers in the CoP k-garden. The document describes a number of session that can guide community development and startup; it's not really exhaustive but in the mid-nineties one of the best materials of its kind available in public domain. And it still serves, if you are looking for some pointers and get down to some more research on bullets that need attention. Steve Whittaker is guiding, and so he left us then with questions that even today in many CoPs are hard to answer.
