Next-Generation Manufacturing Technologies Initiative (NGMTI) has announced the launch of "Communities of
Practice" (CoPs), internet forums that will provide an unprecedented level of collaboration between researchers, managers and other practitioners.
Sponsored by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, NGMTI is developing a national manufacturing technology investment strategy to accelerate the transformation of the U.S. industrial base.  NGMTI is working to energize a
national consensus for investing in high-leverage, high-impact manufacturing technologies that enable faster delivery of affordable systems for defense while at the same time improving the global competitiveness of U.S.
manufacturers.  NGMTI is led by a coalition of the Advanced Technology Institute, the Integrated Manufacturing Technology Initiative, and the National Counsel for Advanced Manufacturing.

"NGMTI's goal is to create a program so compelling that the entire national manufacturing community is actively engaged," stated Richard Neal, Executive Director of IMTI and Technology Director for NGMTI.  "To enable this new, high level of collaboration, we're establishing an open, publicly accessible environment where all manufacturing stakeholders can work together to deliver huge successes for the nation."
