Inspired by the article "using communities of practice to enhance student learning: examples and issues", written by Edward Bilodeau from McGill University, I made an attempt to look further than the relationship between the academic domain and the professional domain.
In his article, Edward talks about the role that communities (of practice) can play in enhancing the student learning (increasing the capabilities of the individual) while providing a mutual learning opportunity for the academic community as well as the professional community. Or: teachers can learn from the professionals, and vice versa. According to his research, the major barriers that have crippled similar initiatives to bridge the gap between academics and professionals has failed: power, status and perceives objectivity.
Edwards Bilodeau 'bridging the gap' community of practice role
I do not disagree with Edward and think that there is a ground for further research in this area. However, I do believe that his paper does not stand alone. A more detailed article on the Trias Community should be posted here soon.
